We here at Pig Meat have just taken part in the “Spring Party Apple Disco Festival of Joy” which is obviously a Northern hemispherical event so we’ve replaced spring with autumn.
Monday 5 May 2003: Salt Dough Gnome Day: Make a Gnome out of home made play-dough, and display it somewhere public with a sign that reads "Please shout hoorah for (Name) the play-dough gnome."
I stole a bit of play-dough from my son’s collection and moulded my own Gnome person. When I told Zac (my son) what I was doing he freaked and told me it would dry out and to put the play-dough back immediately. I ignored him and continued moulding while he watched The Thunderbirds on TV. My Gnome was pink with blue sparkles mixed in, his body consisted of one ball, his head another, while his limbs consisted of sausage shaped chunks of dough. I pressed three small balls in his head to represent eyes and a nose. His mouth was a simple slit created with a pair of tweezers. I called my gnome person Terry Brown – named after a man I used to work with whose name has taken on a life of its own.
I wrote the note to accompany Terry "Please shout hoorah for Terry Brown the play-dough gnome." Popped the gnome & note into a container and took him with me on the way to the train station. I passed a tram stop just as the tram came by; it was the perfect opportunity to place Terry Brown at the stop while no one was around. I took a photo of him sitting there waiting for the tram alongside his note. Three people were just arriving for the next tram as I left to catch my train. I’m sure I could hear a ‘hoorah’ as I was walking away.
Later in the evening while returning from work I stopped by see if my little gnome friend was still there. To my surprise the little chap was and he still had his note. I re-positioned him before going home. It was quite a successful event for the Autumn Party Apple Disco Festival of Joy.
